ARtist Statement
Vick Naresh is a contemporary artist currently living and working in Hamilton, Canada. His ongoing body of work explores figurative abstraction with a focus on metaphorical narratives that address social, contemporary, and personal themes of displacement, belonging, and identity.
Vick’s artistic practice is shaped by an identifiable yet indeterminate language of qualifying imagery, combined with geometric configurations and representations of imagined environments, which are further amplified through visceral colour harmonies. These artworks index moments of reflection in an ethereal universe, attempting to comprehend the intangible while interweaving layered memories.
Drawing on a background in graphic design, Vick’s art is digitally informed while incorporating classical painting techniques in their striking realization on canvas. These multi-layered compositions reflect the accumulation of Naresh’s memories as they are translated into painted form.
Select exhibitions include 19 Karen Gallery in Brisbane, Australia, The Art Gallery of Burlington, Hamilton Artists Inc., and The Art Gallery of Hamilton. His paintings have been collected by private art collectors from Canada, the USA, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and have been featured in local and international publications such as The Saatchi Art Catalogue, House & Garden UK, House & Home, Toronto Star, and Hamilton Spectator. Additionally, Naresh has recently completed a 6-month residency with the Hamilton Arts Council in Hamilton, Canada.
